As we swing our Music Friday finds into holiday season mode, we start with one I'm pretty sure you've never heard.
I'm not sure I would have either, had he not lived next door to me for a number of years. Although, that's not entirely true, as you might have heard his work featured on "One Tree Hill" and MTV.
I have this feeling that you will know the name when his new CD is released in 2013. I simply love the first track, "Maybe," which is streaming on his website...and the rest of the songs are just as sweet.
Last year, he covered the Christmas classic, "Carol of the Bells." The video is lush and fun...but the real deal is that Ari Herstand is a master at looping. That's the art of laying down a basic rhythm, a few flourishes (like the keys and horn) and letting the computer "loop" them over and over to create a one-man symphony.
And seeing him do it live is simply a treat. All that sound...from just one mega-talented guy and his computer.
And, be of good cheer.
