One of the most accomplished bass players in the world lives in my town. I first met him when he served on my Board of Directors when I headed up the Greater Madison Convention & Visitors Bureau in the 1990s.
By then, Richard Davis had decided to come off the road (though he continued to play and record) and teach at the University of Wisconsin. He continues in that role to this day...and was recently the subject of a fascinating feature by our friend Katy Sai (click here to watch).
Yesterday, the National Endowment for the Arts named Richard one of its "Jazz Masters" for 2014, its highest honor. And, I couldn't be more thrilled for this amazing man.
Congratulations, Richard. We love you!
