When we featured Karla DeVito a few weeks ago, we noted that one of the reasons she never broke through was that many rock radio programmers in the early '80s had a "one-chick-per-hour" rule. Stupid, yes...but it existed.
And that "one-chick" was Pat Benatar. The first true rock act that aired on MTV's first day (sorry, I don't count the Buggles), Pat and Spyder went on to be one of the biggest acts of the era...and are still packing them into concert halls today.
We caught them last weekend and they were as tight as ever, clicking through a great mix of classics and under-appreciated album tracks.
