If your theory is accurate "this was a calculated move to weaken the influence of DMO Boards...", then the intent is to cause deliberate harm to the structure of tourism marketing. While not ready to buy into that as an intended goal, it certainly is a byproduct of it.

Either way, it will not be good in the long run as it will cause a sustained defection of valuable board members and open the door for more "agenda driven" candidates to jump in, making it harder to retain or recruit the best to lead DMOs.

How short-sighted, egotistical and destructive.
