It is somewhat fascinating that consumers will believe an opinion or review posted by a stone cold stranger. Maybe I'm just not very trusting, but I often wonder if a glowing review was posted by the owner and a flame proffered by a competitor.
We posted on this issue a few months ago (as were others) and figured that TripAdvisor would someday develop something way more effective than their "Zero-Tolerance" Policy.
According to Internet Travel News, they have: Home to 10 million reviews, TripAdvisor is taking a page from social networking sites like MySpace to develop a traveler network that allows its 20 million monthly visitors to quickly tap into their most valued resources (their friends) to help them plan their travel more efficiently.
According to SVP/Marketing Christine Petersen, "With 6 million members, you'll be amazed how many people you know are already on TripAdvisor and you'll be even more surprised by all the places they've been and the knowledge they can share."
Very smart.
Very smart indeed. It looks like they had their eyes on sites like virtualtourist.com and tripconnect
