One of my favorite stories from the 1970s-1980s era of Wisconsin Badgers football (when they were the perennial doormats of the Big Ten) was that, after losing 55-2 to Michigan State in 1978, Badger fans stormed the field and tried to tear down the goalposts, chanting, "We Scored First. We Scored First."
My second favorite goalpost story occurred this weekend, as Appalachian State traveled to the Big House to take on the 5th ranked Michigan Wolverines. Michigan was considered so heavy a favorite that Las Vegas odds makers refused to put a line on the game.
In what some are calling the biggest upset in College Football history, A-State beat Michigan 34-32 Saturday. And, upon hearing the news, the Mountaineer fans that couldn't make the trip promptly went to their own stadium...and tore the goalpost down.
Love it.
