Word from Bernama.com reveals that 33 beauties
from around the world will converge on Sibu in December to compete in the
finals of the World Miss Tourism Pageant 2007.
I'm all for communicating the value of tourism around the world...but I'm a little confused at how nubile women do that.
Of course, as an American, there is SO much that I don't understand.
Oh, you get it perfectly well, Bill.....
I can't help but put this into the context of the post about the Korean UN Secretary General's comments regarding tourism.
This actually represents pretty well, how a lot of tourism destination marketers in his neck o' the woods understand the role of tourism. The level of sophistication can be surprisingly low still. Believe you me, I've spent over a decade in Asia and not that much has changed in their marketing outlook since I left.
U.S. travelers to Asia in general are far more sophisticated in their behavior than they are still often portrayed. It's a different segment that travels to far away destinations than what you encounter at your domestic theme park!
