For Destination Marketers that stubbornly cling to the ways they sold travel in the last century (just the words "last century" should put that concept in an absurd light), new research from PhocusWright ought to be the wake-up call that has been slept through for too many years.
51% of U.S. travel was booked online in 2007. PhocusWright predicts that number will jump to 56% this year and 60% in 2009.
That sound you hear? It's all of your competitors shifting even more resources to online and interactive.
It's where today's consumer is, baby...
Amen to that. And don't think offering hotel bookings on your DMO site puts you onto the leading edge!
