A number of us have talked about this for a while...but it's now quantified. Over a quarter of all taxes generated by visitor expenditures come in the form of property taxes. In Phoenix, every hotel room generates just over $1700 in property taxes each year. Which is more per square foot than comparable property tax on homes.
This changes the conversation. A lot.
Several DMO's have been doing this through a partnership with DK Shifflett and Global Insight since the early part of the decade.
It is easier and more comprehensive than trying to get individual businesses to reply but you need to know your visitor volume to do it.
Really makes a huge difference in describing impact to the bottom line of local government.
