Apparently, qualifying for food stamps is grounds for dismissal as a Compass Airlines flight attendant. According to Gadling, Kristen Arianejad was terminated after being featured on a local television program and admitting she was approved for food stamps to supplement her wages.
Compass (which flies regionals on behalf of Delta) evidently starts its flight attendants at between $13,000 and $15,000 a year. Not exactly a livable wage but, hey, if you really want to be a flight attendant and starting out at poverty level is the dues you have to pay, we gotta support Kristen and her peers for taking that deal.
But, to then fire them when the truth about how little they are being paid surfaces? When their only crime is to want to work for you and raise their daughter?
In the court of public opinion, Compass just lost.
We already know how little these "feeder" airlines pair their pilots and first officers...it became pretty public after that crash in upstate New York a few years ago when they augured an ice-laden plane into a residential neighborhood. Good to know such airlines are consistent in their miserliness.

I would much rather see a person that wants to work receive a little help - versus depend solely on the system for support.

It's common for an E-3 or E-4 in the military with 2 or 3 dependents to qualify.
