But not Texas...where both gubernatorial candidates are pledging to cut the tourism budget as a way to balance their underwater budget. And Democratic challenger Bill White doesn't want to just reduce funding. He wants to "take a machete" to it.
I'm sorry guys...but cutting a $22 million investment that can produce more tax revenue than it costs while adding jobs to the economy is no way to plug an $18 billion deficit.

Bill, Thanks for shining some light on this. I work in the Texas tourism industry, and we are all very concerned about this.
Governor Perry has proposed cutting $6 million from the budget, as well as cuts to every other government budget. As much as we hate to see the budget decreased, at least it's equitable. Mr. White has suggested eliminating the budget entirely.
It's a good lesson that our advocacy as an industry can never stop. Again, thanks for helping out.

Sadly, fear makes people say stupid things. At least White has backed off the complete elimination concept...for now.
