We always encourage our clients to retain their no longer used URLs as a defensive strategy. Even if you are 100% sure that you'll never go back to it...it's still associated with you somewhere. In an old brochure, in somebody else's repurposed listing online. Somewhere, somehow, that old URL still points to you.
Imagine the fun someone could have at your expense. Think "the Mayhem Guy." Yeah...
I hadn't thought of phone numbers the same way. That is, until last week...when it was revealed that a phone sex service has snapped up the old Chicago Tourism number.
Oops. Guess we gotta put those on the no toss list, too.
