Nobody Forgives You For Success

I recently had the chance to hang with the Mayor of Jenks, home to the Oklahoma Aquarium and a pretty cool little community just south of Tulsa. Vic Vreeland is one of those larger than life characters that can say pretty much what he wants (even when it’s politically incorrect)...because, way more often than not, it’s true.

As we shot the shit a few weeks ago, he said, “Nobody forgives you for success.”

How true. And, how sad that we have de-evolved into a culture that is so opposite of that in which Vic and I grew up, where we valued winning (even when others did it) and celebrated the human spirit.

Here’s hoping that we can, one day, return to that culture.

Like crabs crawling out of a bucket sometimes... the closer you get to the top, the more those at the bottom pull you down.

This isn't new, it just appears to be more acceptable these days - at all levels.
