Past the lies from gate agents on flight status and the TSA on the safety of its screening technology, the most patently absurd lie is the one promulgated by the FAA that hand held electronic devices could bring down a commercial jetliner.
The lie became even more bold-faced a year or so ago when airlines began outfitting their pilots with iPads...and then restricted their use to operations under 10,000 feet.
Which, errr, is exactly when passengers have been told that their utilization of said devices would be dangerous.
But, being the government, the FAA thought we wouldn't notice the dichotomy.
The big news last week was that the FAA was preparing to relax those rules for passengers. With the government shutdown, that apparently is now on hold.
Even more interesting is that Delta just announced they are outfitting their pilots with Surface 2 tablets in a move that is intended to save the airline $13 million in fuel costs by reducing pilot carry-on manuals and flight plans.
So what is it, really? Safety...or savings?
Oh, never mind. We don't believe you anyway.
