Just as Facebook was originally designed for college students, Google has developed a service designed for our Armed Forces...but the broader application is lurking just around the corner.
Utilizing Google Maps and Earth, it's called Tour Builder and, in its original iteration, it's designed for soldiers to plot their travels during their tour(s) of duty. Of course, it won't take long for consumers to jump on board and plot their travels for all their friends to see.
And, possibly emulate...without ever needing to contact a Destination Marketing Organization.
Tick, tock, tick....
As it has always been though, a DMOs role is to authenticate the backbone of this information. This evolution is a good thing but it will always need someone on the ground to provide the baseline.
