I know I shouldn't be....but I'm often stunned at the tripe people write in the comment section of online new stories.
The latest is a response to the recent rejection of a raise by Oklahoma Tourism Director Deby Snodgress until a comprehensive review of all Department employee compensation is complete. Which is a move that is commendable on a number of levels.
But one of the chronic commenters on the Tulsa World website couldn't help but exhibit a sensationally absurd stream of consciousness:
"The average wage earned in the city or state government should be a factor in a government employee's salary. For instance, the average wage for the state of Oklahoma is about $36K a year. Ms. Snodgrass' salary was more than twice as much as the average salary for Oklahomans...before her raise. Now, it's three times more. That's just not right."
So...let me get this straight. Government workers shouldn't make more money than the average citizen? OK...but that means that we will all recieve no more than an average level of competence in the services we expect from government. And, I think we pretty much demand more than that.
And, do we really want someone that isn't talented or clever enough to figure out how to earn more than $36,000 a year to be in charge of running an agency that has the responsibility to create jobs and generate visitor taxes?
Because, with all due respect...it won't end well.
Jean? You're a moron. Please stop posting.
That's why Jean won't be doing any meaningful work in her life...except to offer moronic comments on what she knows nothing about. Come to think if it, she's perfect for gov't work.
