While those in New York, Michigan, Ohio and New Jersey may be snickering in self-satisfied glee, allow me to pay my respects to a once great State Tourism Department.
There was a time in the last decade that Pennsylvania boasted one of the top tourism budgets (and most creative teams) in the nation. The Commonwealth also maintained one of the two top DMO grant programs in the country.
No longer, as Governor Corbett released his proposed budget for Tourism promotion and development yesterday, essentially chopping it in half to a paltry $3.8 million. What once was one of the top 5 budgets is now among the bottom five.
And, placing Pennsylvania's once vibrant economy in peril.
How can a State, once so smart, do something so dumb?
We are assuming that their past expenditures were well spent. Not ways the case.

Tourism drives tax dollars into the State for human services programs beyond other business benefits. It's like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
