T'was a weekend for which we've waited since Chiristmas...the first hint of spring in Madison.
Yesterday's high of 57 felt like summer...and the neighbors got together last evening to burn our discarded evergreen on the still frozen lakeshore.
While there are still some hardy souls ice fishing out there, I wondered what the record is for the lake opening...because this was a record breaking winter.
And that doesn't mean the day in which there is no more ice...nor the day that there is the first crack.
The rule of thumb for declaring the lake "open" is much more precise, according to the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. It's the date that one can transport a case of beer by canoe from Picnic Point to Maple Bluff.
Really.
Hey, it's a 'Sconie thang.
