It's been a week full of sadness and tributes to one of the most inventive artists of our time. From exploring extraterrestialism and gender bending to zigging as the Thin White Duke when the rest of the world was zagging to grunge...we always wondered what was next from David Bowie.
His line from Space Oddity that "the stars look very different" never rang truer. And, my favorite tribute quote came from Dean Podesta: "If you're ever sad, just remember that the world is 4.5 billion years old and you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie."
Some artists, as they approach that last great journey, pen such introspective masterpieces as Warren Zevon's Keep My in Your Heart. Bowie went the other way on his new album, released a week ago on his birthday, taking us with him on the flight. And, such a stylish birthday smile (click image to enlarge) on that same day, captured by longtime friend and photographer Jimmy King.
While there are some sensational tracks on the new album, on this Music Friday, I'm going back to the moment that I went from passing fan to devotee....it's Rebel Rebel, originally from the Diamond Dogs LP.
I can't wait to see what he does next.
The stars look very different indeed. There is no replacement for a one of a kind like Bowie.
