The majority of candidates for President are so, for no other reason than, because the news media deigns them to be. And, because the news media thrives (and profits from) drama, the worst possible candidates rise to the top of the public consciousness.
Taking this concept to a more local level, the Sonoma County Tourism Bureau is currently being sued by a "watchdog group" (funded by the media) because they refused a request from said news media to share details of their financial commitment to the effort to bring Super Bowl 50 to the region.
This is only a story because the news media has its ego out of joint because someone dared to say 'no' to them.
Honestly...who really cares how much the Bureau spent to bring Super Bowl 50 to Wine Country...and the hundreds of Sonoma County businesses that likely saw sensational business pre and post game? Visits that, for many consumers, will continue this week and will be repeated by those that have now discovered Sonoma County.
It's even more perplexing because Bureau Director Ken Fischang has told the news media that no public dollars were utilized in the deal...only private sector investment and in-kind donations.
So, where is the public's need to know if tax revenues were not part of the deal?
Like I said, it's only because the news media was told "no, it's competitively sensitive information," that this is even a story.
Because, unlike the glory days of our news media making America the most informed country in the world, it's now about the temper tantrums of petulant children making us the dumbest.
