Hanging in a bar last night with my friend Jay Graham (curator of Rick's Picks and empresario of Graham Spencer, the agency behind the very cool "Misery Loves Company" video for the Rockford Area CVB)...and he was clearly excited about the first single that dropped this week from the upcoming Cheap Trick album.
Back in my hotel room, I clicked the appropriate links and, holy shit, he's right.
He called it "chunky," a word I've used before to describe a sound that rattles your bones. Tom Petty's "It's the Last Time" is a great example of "chunky (or "krunky").
But, I'm going to go a step further and call this "blistering," because that's how the guitars (and Robin's vocal) feel.
Maybe I'm giving points because a bunch of 60-year olds just schooled the present generation...but, damn, this song feels raw.
On this Music Friday, please welcome the pride of Rockford: It's Cheap Trick's newest. It's "Long Time Coming."
Am I right?
Oh, yeah!
