Yesterday afternoon, I popped into my local pharmacy/convenience store to pick up a few things...and was confronted by perhaps the most biologically toxic individual I have ever met in a transactional situation.
There was that asshole in New Orleans that infected half the room during his presentation...but this was different.
But, how this cashier was allowed to check-in for work is simply unfathomable. That she even reported for work suggests she thought there would be managerial retribution if she didn't. No one that sick should feel compelled to show up for work. And, no manager should place their customers in harm's way by deploying sick employees.
I don't blame the cashier. I blame management.
My experience made me neither happy nor healthy.
And, I won't return.
As a Manager, I don't care how short staffed you are. You have a toxic employee? You need to send them home and take their place.
Period.
Maybe she desperately needed the money? Most part-time employees don't get insurance or sick time.

Oh...I get that. And, that's part of my point. If she's part-time and clearly too sick to fulfill her responsibilities...she should be sent home WITH PAY. Managers that don't get this fact shouldn't be managers. Companies that don't get this fact don't deserve our business.
