Maybe it's because I know (and love) Tulsa...and many don't. But, the newest move for this Oklahoma city, while not exactly groundbreaking (a select few have offered similar incentives), would so have hooked me as a 20-something.
Honestly? $10,000 and free rent for a year to fall in love with your city? I'd have been all in.
Here's the deal. Many that have never been to Tulsa believe it to be boring. Which is why over 50 corporations there have invested significant money in the DMO there to make the community look cool. It's about workforce development. Now that the ground has been fertilized, it's time to close the deal.
Starting this week, remote workers from all over the country can apply to move to Tulsa in exchange for $10,000 in cash, a housing stipend for a fully-furnished apartment in a building downtown, and a desk at a local co-working space. The program, called Tulsa Remote, is being fully funded by the George Kaiser Family Foundation, a Tulsa-based philanthropy.
Simply brilliant.
