When we heard the news last night that Steve Priest had departed terra firma, Terri cocked her head and asked me if she knew him. I simply said. "Are you ready, Steve?" And, she smiled and nodded her head.
The opening line of one of Sweet's biggest hits began by making sure their bassist (and then the rest of the band) was ready to tear into "Ballroom Blitz."
Sweet was one of the most successful of the "glam rock" bands that flowed out of England in the early '70s. More pop than Queen...but with similar harmonies (especially on "Love is Like Oxygen"). Early songs like "Little Willy" certainly didn't help their cred in serious rock circles, though they emerged with a tougher sound by the mid-point of the decade.
We'll say farewell with one of my guilty faves..."Fox on the Run."
Sleep well, Steve.
The four songs you listed have been on many of my playlists over the years. Even my 20-something kids would know what "Are you ready, Steve?" leads to. Great summer choice!

Love it! Sad it took Steve's passing to learn how many Sweet fans there were out there.
