One-hit wonders abound in the popular music space. Often derided for their short, meteoric run...there had to be something in play that made their one track so memorable and the rest of their work so disposable.
On this Music Friday, we offer up the Sanford Townsend Band. Their first album shimmered with promise. Kenny Loggins guested on one track. The record company was pushing the single hard.
The hit was "Smoke from a Distant Fire" and it killed, both musically and lyrically.
They should have been much bigger than they were. I blame the label.
Smooth song, for sure. Love the outfits on stage. Boy does that bring back memories.

Welcome home! Looking forward to reconnecting.
You know, this is the 25th anniversary of the First Class graduation. Maybe we should get the band back together on a Zoom :)
