I'm sure there were those who arched an eyebrow in last week's Music Friday post when I said I was a Jim Steinman fanboy. You'll arch again this week, I'm sure.
My college radio station was one of the first in the nation to put the first Kiss record into hot rotation (that means we played it a shit ton). As the years went on, the band became a punchline for the music elite...but they never lost sight of their core audience. And, as the "End of the Road Tour" resumes in June, trust me. It'll be the hottest ticket out there.
While Gene Simmons' veered into merchandising and Reality TV, Paul Stanley has explored other artistic opportunities. He played "The Phantom of the Opera" in Toronto. He paints. And, this Spring, he released an R&B album with a sizzling backing band of session musicians called Soul Station.
Paul swung to the front of consciousness last week when he commented on a Facebook post from a mother whose 6-year old was told by a teacher that her painting wasn't very good. Paul posted: "Edie...Your art is AWESOME!!! There is no such thing as doing art 'wrong, There are only teachers who are wrong'!!! Your art shows amazing freedom and spirit. How can that be 'wrong'?!?! Keep doing EXACTLY what you are doing. I LOVE it!!!"
As the article shares, "Edie is too young to know how fantastic it is that Paul Stanley just gave her props."
But we know.
And on this Music Friday, let me hip the haters to this sensational version of the classic, "O-h-h Child."
Not surprised...Luv it!
