Destination Marketing Organizations across the land have marked National Travel & Tourism Week (traditionally the first week of May) for years. Celebratory luncheons, cook-outs, media conferences...all designed to highlight the advantages gained in our communities from a robust Visitor Economy and the role DMOs play in that ecosystem.
But, we've never seen a Tourism Week splash like what is being prepared by our friends at Visit Brookings. They're planning a $25,000 sweepstakes for workers within their hospitality industry.
According to Visit Brookings Executive Director Laura Schoen Carbonneau: “When travel shut down in 2019, our friends who work in the hospitality industry were suddenly thrust into a world of uncertainty. First, they weren’t sure if they would have jobs. Then they worried for their own health as they served the traveling public. Now that travel is nearly back to normal, those same employees are finding themselves working incredibly long hours for little pay. This is a way to show them how much we appreciate their dedication to the tourism industry.”
Very cool concept...and one that will be noticed.
Nicely played.
