The '70s was an interesting era in music. Folk, Country, R&B, Rock and Pop all co-existed in a stewpot of new expressionism. It wasn't unusual to find The Who appearing on the Smothers Brothers TV show or Janis Joplin dueting with Tom Jones.
Against this dynamic, Seals and Crofts burst on the scene in a brief moment with three top Ten hits. Former bandmates of Glen Campbell in the '60s, the two decided to strike out on their own. They weren't the first, but they are, in my mind, the epitome of the Soft Rock genre.
We lost one half of this duo this week with the passing of Jim Seals. As a salute, on this 600th Music Friday post, we offer this gem from The Midnight Special..."Summer Breeze."
RIP Jim Seals. Seals & Crofts' harmonies were exquisite, but it was the Smothers Brothers show clips and the Tom Jones duet that sent me down the rabbit hole, so thanks for that;)
