If not for Ronnie Hawkins, The Band would likely never have put its definitive stamp on America music. For it was Ronnie Hawkins that assembled a backing band called The Hawks that included virtually the same line-up that ultimately became The Band. "He taught us the rules of the road," said Robbie Robertson. And, he worked them hard.
Ronnie jumped to the next plane of existence this past week at 87...and on this Music Friday, we celebrate his legacy and life with this amazing video. It's the final night for The Band, captured by Martin Scorsese in the movie "The Last Waltz." The band had asked Ronnie back for the historic date to play with their mentor one last time. And, it's simply wonderful.
