If you read my post from last week, you know that those 36 hours weren't the most enjoyable of my life...but a learning experience to share with friends and clients for years. So, in the end, we'll call it even.
Except it's not. As my flight approached MSN and I watched the landscape evolve from farm to city, I noticed a change in the approach. I'm a million-miler out of this airport and I had never seen what was unfolding before my eyes. We approached from the southwest, over the Arboretum, the Stadium, the Capitol, the lakeshore, my daughter's condo and the lush neighborhoods of the near northside. It was simply exhilarating in its beauty.
As I deplaned, tired and stinky from the previous night's ordeal, I poked my head into the cabin and thanked the pilots. "I've flown over a million miles out of this airport and I've never been so inspired."
The co-pilot smiled and said, "yeah, that was way cool." And then confided, they're working on the main runway and we got to use this one. "Pretty sweet, yeah?" They were just as jazzed.
If you've ever wanted to fly to Madison, do it soon, before construction on the primary runway is completed. The city is embracing summer and, if the winds are right, you'll get to see it from a perspective that is simply sublime. And sadly pretty rare.
If you do...reach out. We're loving the best time of the year in the Mad City.
I'm not familiar with "the Arboretum, the Stadium, the Capitol" in Madison. It took a few minutes to confirm it's "Wisconsin" and not one of the other 26 Madison's in the USA. I'm glad you found your silver lining.
