We normally pivot our Music Friday post the day after Thanksgiving to focus on Holiday tunes. But, having just seen Pat and Spider's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I've had an epiphany.
When Pat broke onto the scene, there was another female rocker looking to break through as well...Karla DeVito.
Both armed with powerful voices...but most rock radio programmers had this amazingly myopic view that they would play only one female artist per hour. Stupid, yes...but it was the early '80s when Rock bands were fronted by men.
It was the induction video that was the lightbulb for me. Pat played it angry and rough. Karla was coquettish and cute.
Angry won.
Pat and Spyder's induction into the Rock Hall is so worth your time.
Spandex-fueled anger...hell Yeah! That's rocn n' roll baby! Was a fan from album one and still am. Loved the Class of 2022 Induction Ceremony. It just seemed fun, the music was big (there were some awesome grandparents rockin out on stage), they all sounded good and the audience members got into it and cheered wildly for legendary talent we all dug growing up with...except for Dolly;) No disrespect towards Dolly. I am grateful for having grown up in a time...where you rightly lament doesn't exist...when many forms of music hit the airwaves. This class from Eminem to Ms. Parton was a great example. There is an appreciation for diverse tunes and music acts that we all take with us every day. Lionel Ritchie said it well: "Whenever a record executive told me to write more of those "fill in the blank" songs, I did the exact opposite." Nuff said.
