David Sanborn inspired me to take up the saxophone. I never mastered the instrument...but he was always an inspiration.
He once said, "my favorite record is the one I haven't made yet." And we'll never hear it...unless he makes it with the house band in Heaven (and we are admitted guests).
David Sanborn departed terra firma this week, leaving behind a wealth of soulful sounds on countless albums.
As we say farewell, there are my favorites from his solo career, where his Saxophone elegantly replaced lyrics:
And the amazing "Comin Home Baby"
But then, there are the songs you know that he blessed:
He was the Sax behind Bowie's "Young Americans."
With Sting during the Plague.
And with Eric Clapton.
Sleep, Sweet Prince.
And those of us that make it to Heaven will luxurate in that next record.
Another pillar in the soundtrack of our lives has departed. R.I.P. David
