Like its name suggests, Genesis spawned the solo careers of Peter Gabriel, Phil Colins and Mike Rutherford. And, for some inexplicable cosmic reason, I was hearing Mike + the Mechanics songs in my hotel, my restaurant and my airport on this week's work in the field.
And, I guess that's all the prompting I need to make Mike's work a Music Friday feature.
While Peter and Phil are generally viewed as the most successful of the trio, most don't know that Mike was the lyricist on many of the biggest hits that Genesis churned out including "Land of Confusion" and "Turn it on Again."
But, he really shined with the side project called Mike + the Mechanics. "Living Years" (with Paul Carrick on vocals) was probably the biggest hit...but my fave was always "All I Need is a Miracle."
Your favorites?
I vote for "Living Years". It is a song with a beautiful sentiment.
